Ayurveda

Ayurveda (Aa-yer-vay-da), the "Science of Life", or longevity is the oldest healing science in existence, dating over 5000 years. It is the extraordinary science of healing the body, mind, and spirit. The Ayurvedic view suggests that illness affects the mind and body, and therefore should be treated together. For example if you have a headache or back pain it is only natural that it will affect your mental well-being. The Ayurvedic practitioner is therefore looking to balance the body and the mind.

According to Ayurveda we are born with a particular constitution or bioforces, which is a blueprint for our individual psychobiological makeup. These bioforces are known as the doshas, and they are described as Vata (Air), Pitta (Fire) and Kapha (Water). The fundamental principle of Ayurveda is that all illness is a result of imbalance of the doshas.

The Ayurvedic team of practitioners at Aspects of Healing offer two therapies:

Ayurveda Lifestyle Counseling

To help individuals create an optimal environment for health, Ayurveda offers a group of treatments often referred to as "five sense therapies." which includes diet, aromatherapy, colour therapy, sound therapy, and touch therapy (massage). In Ayurveda every person must be treated individually. The skill of the practitioner lies in the ability to correctly identify each individual’s constitution, diagnosing the cause of imbalance and treating the patient accordingly. The initial consultation begins with taking a thorough patient case history. This is followed by a physical assessment, which consists of examining the eyes, tongue, nails, skin, examination of the abdomen and a critical pulse diagnosis. The pulse reveals your natural constitution and the health of your organs. After diagnosing the root cause of the ailment, the Ayurvedic practitioner will decide on one or a combination of one of the "five sense therapies" together with lifestyle advice.

Synchronised Ayurveda Massage

In the West we are just beginning to appreciate the hidden pearls of wisdom sewn in Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, the role of massage involves much more than relaxing tight muscles, and reducing physical pain. Ayurveda is a system that treats individuals and thus each person is given a tailor made massage using specific oils and treatment regime. Synchronised Massage is unique to Ayurveda. This is a specialised massage involving two massage therapists, who synchronise their massage strokes to perfection. The sensation of the four hands treatment synchronises brain waves, and profoundly coordinates and calms the mind, body, and spirit. This treatment is also an intensive detoxification procedure, which is traditionally used for obesity, loss of skin lustre, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, and stress.
