What Is Naturopathy

Naturopathy is a complementary medicine that takes a holistic approach to wellness and uses natural remedies and therapies to promote healing and prevent disease. Naturopathy is based on the principle that the body has an innate ability to heal itself.

Naturopathy aims to address both the symptoms and the underlying cause of illness by using Western herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, flower essences, and dietary and lifestyle modifications to restore balance, health and wellness to the body.

Principles of Naturopathy

First Do No Harm

Naturopaths have a duty of care to look after their clients’ health, first and foremost. This means using the most natural, least invasive, and least toxic treatments available to suit an individual’s unique needs. Potential interactions with existing medications or treatments are considered, ensuring a safe and effective approach.

The Healing Power of Nature

Nature provides what we need to live healthily and happily. Naturopaths use substances derived from nature, recognising that a healthy diet and natural environment are foundational to health. Tapping into the healing power of nature enhances the body’s inherent wisdom to heal itself.

Identify and Treat the Cause(s)

The goal of the naturopath is to identify and address the underlying causes or drivers of illness, thereby removing obstacles to healing. In our modern day, there are usually several drivers to consider.

Doctor as Teacher

Naturopaths are educators and facilitators. Sharing reputable information and providing access to helpful tools, naturopaths empower their clients by increasing understanding of what’s going on, and with that knowledge, encouraging clients to take the driver’s seat for their own health and wellness journey.

Treat the Whole Person

Naturopaths acknowledge the interconnectedness of many aspects of our lives that contribute to wellbeing. Using a whole-person-based (or holistic) approach is key to restoring balance and optimising health.

Prevention

Prevention is always better than cure. Naturopaths encourage proactivity, not reactivity, where possible. They encourage putting steps into place as early as possible, to maintain wellness, better manage chronic conditions, and prevent longer-term, undue suffering. There’s no time like the present to take control of your own health!

What Happens During A Naturopathy Consultation?

Consultation

If you are a new naturopathy client, please arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment to complete our client information form. During the consultation, our experienced naturopath will review your health history and discuss any symptoms, concerns or questions you may have.

Physical Observations & Testing

Before starting the treatment, your naturopath will conduct a physical examination that may involve assessing your tongue and nails, as well as performing iridology. For a comprehensive understanding of your overall health, they will also discuss your diet, lifestyle, and emotional wellbeing and may recommend further testing or pathology if required.
Based on the information gathered, they will create a personalised treatment plan that may include adjustments to diet and lifestyle, as well as recommendations for herbal medicines, nutritional supplements, and flower essences if required.
The naturopath will discuss the timing and frequency of any follow-up appointments required. Follow-up appointments will focus on reviewing test results, checking your progress and tweaking or adjusting your treatment program if needed.
